The grounds of Dundee FC, Dens Park, and Dundee United, Tannadice Park, are located approximately 200 metres from one another. Dundee FC was formed in 1893 by the merger of two clubs, including a former tenant club of Tannadice, and the new club played mostly at Carolina Port ground. Dundee FC moved to a new ground at Dens Park in 1899. Archibald Leitch was engaged to design a new Main Stand on the northern side of the pitch and terrace the remaining three sides in 1920. South Side opposite the Main Stand was partially roofed in the late 1950's. The terraces at the north and south ends were replaced by grandstands in 1999 but the Main and South Stands remain in use.
