Gillingham Wall Art

New Brompton FC, predecessors of Gillingham FC, began playing at the Priestfield ground in 1893. The pitch was not laid level and remained in that state until renovations in 1955 but the previous level of the pitch can be seen in our photo of the Town End Terrace: the top of the front wall parallels the previous slope of the pitch. Priestfield had floodlights installed in 1963 and the stadium remained largely unchanged until safety regulations forced the closure of one stand. Since 1995 the ground has been completely redeveloped but there is talk of Gillingham FC relocating.
