Originally named for its location in the district of San Siro the ground has been home to AC Milan since 1926 and was designed from the outset to be used only for soccer. Capacity was 26,000 but additions and renovations increased capacity to over 100,000 for a brief period in the 1950’s. Current capacity is just over 80,000. Inter Milan moved to the ground following the Second World War instituting one of football’s longest ground sharing arrangements. The ground has hosted the Champions League Final three times and is scheduled to host the event in 2016. The San Siro is also one of the few stadia to have hosted World Cup matches in two tournaments, the first being 1934 and the latter coming in 1990.
