Workington AFC moved to Borough Park in 1937 and joined the Football League in 1951. Workington AFC had a relatively short tenure in the Football League, considering it was the era when the only way to drop out was failure to be "re-elected." Workington AFC were voted out of the Football League in 1977 and replaced by Wimbledon. The Main Stand at Borough Park was closed in the 1980's for safety reasons but the lower levels still house changing rooms and club offices. The seating area was removed but the base of the structure remains in place. Borough Park played host to the famed Busby Babes of Manchester United in an FA Cup match barely a month before the Munich Air Crash.
