Description
Ashton Gate has been the home of Bristol City FC since 1904. The ground has hosted England Under-21 matches in addition to Premiership Rugby and the 1999 Rugby World Cup match between Tonga and the All Blacks.
The black and white photos of Ashton Gate show the early system of individual floodlights mounted on poles close to the sideline of the pitch. These lights were replaced by floodlight towers in the four corners of the pitch.
Redevelopment of Ashton Gate has seen new stands built on three sides and the 1970 Dolman Stand has been modernised. Eventually the club hope to expand capacity to 27,000 all seated.
