Artist's Description

Opened in 1892, Goodison Park has hosted more matches at the top level than any other ground in England.

Goodison Park hosted a women’s match which drew more than 50,000 supporters, leading the Football Association to ban women’s matches from member grounds. This ban remained in place until 1971.

Bomb damage sustained during the Second World War is still visible on the brickwork of the Gwladys Street Stand.

St. Luke’s Church occupies land in the north west corner of the ground.
