Hartlepool United have played at Victoria Park since their formation in 1908. The ground was perhaps the first to suffer damage from aerial bombing when in 1916 a German Zeppelin attacked the area and destroyed the main stand on Clarence Road. The club built a small temporary stand and sought reparations from the German government but as the attempt as unsuccessful the “temporary” stand was used until the late 1980’s.
