SSC Napoli have played their home matches at the Stadio San Paolo since 1959. Construction on the new ground began in 1948 but was not completed until 1959. Studio San Paolo hosted preliminary matches for the 1960 Olympic soccer tournament for the Games held in Rome as well as matches in the 1980 European Championship and the 1990 World Cup. The stadium has been renovated twice, the first time for the 1990 World Cup and more recently in 2010.
