Description
Sunderland AFC played their first match at Roker Park in September 1898 and their last match at the ground at the end of the 1996-97 Premier League season. The Roker End, constructed in 1913, was one of the earliest concrete terraces supported by a structure rather than laid on an earth embankment.
Archibald Leitch was engaged by the club to build a new Main Stand in 1929 followed by the new Clock Stand opposite in 1936. Record attendance was 75,118 for a 1933 FA Cup Tie against Derby County.
Roker Park hosted four matches during the 1966 World Cup in England.
