Portsmouth FC have played their home matches at Fratton Park since the ground was opened in 1898. The main stand was designed by Archibald Leitch and peak capacity was over 51,000 spectators. The ground hosted matches for the 1948 London Olympics soccer tournament and in February 1956 was the first ground to host a Football League match under floodlights.
