Description
Tranmere Rovers play their home matches at Prenton Park, opened in 1912 but the ground has been renovated extensively and the oldest stand is the Main Stand constructed in1968. Record attendance was 24,424 who watched Tranmere hold Stoke City 2-2 in a 1972 FA Cup Fourth Round match. Rovers lost the replay 2-0 in Stoke.
Preston Park Has hosted two Women’s FA Cup Finals, in 1991 and 1992. More unusual was in July 1998 when Prenton Park hosted a UEFA Cup qualifying round match between Shelbourne, an Irish Club, and Glasgow Rangers. The ground was chosen as the “home” venue for Shelbourne as there were fears of sectarian violence around the match.
