Goldstone Ground was the home of Brighton and Hove Albion, through name changes from 1902 until 1997 when the ground was controversially sold to property developers to construct a retail park. Record attendance at the grounds was for a match against Fulham when just under 37,800 supporters packed the ground. Goldstone Ground was used for two matches during the 1948 London Olympic soccer competition. The black and white photo of the North Stand in our collection was demolished in 1983 and replaced by a new stand that opened in 1984. By 1949 the East Bank was fully terraced with the southern end curving into the new South Stand completed the year before.
