Description
York City moved to Bootham Crescent in 1932 after purchasing the ground from York Cricket Club. The ground is less than 1/4 mile from the historic centre of York. Supporters were involved with fund raising and many volunteered labour in the construction of the Popular and Main stands.
During the Second World War part of Bootham Crescent was used as an air-raid shelter. A nearby bomb caused damage to the ground.
Record attendance was over 28,000 but current capacity is 7,872. The ground is also known as “Kit Kat Crescent” thanks to a sponsorship deal.
The Main Stand at Bootham Crescent only covers 2/3 of the sideline but holds the changing rooms and club offices.
